What's Holding You Back From an Organized Home & How We Can Help

We know that having an organized home will improve our lives in all the right ways, but sometimes it’s just so darn hard to get started. You’re not alone. We started Designing with Less because we saw the struggle and wanted to help our clients on their journey to a more organized and productive life.

Today, we’re talking about 3 elements that may keep you from jump-starting your organization journey and how we can help…

1. You Don’t Know Where to Start

It can be overwhelming knowing where to start. Is it the closet where all your clothes have ended up on the floor? Is it the garage because you would love to park your car away at night? Or is it the pantry because you keep buying duplicates?

That’s where we come in. During a consultation, we can help you determine where to start.

2. It’s Not Easy to Part with Some Items

Just because something was a gift or inherited doesn’t mean you’re obliged to keep it. Wouldn’t you rather it serves someone who will appreciate and use it instead of keeping it just for the sake of keeping it?

In the editing phase, you must focus on your goals. Don’t get bogged down with guilt. Instead, stay focused and clear-minded about your vision for your space. Someone else will get value and joy from the items you choose to let go of.

3. You Don't Have Time

Organizing takes time. It can be overwhelming and time-consuming. You have two options: either hire a pro to tackle it for you (with your help and input), or you can break it down into smaller chunks of time.

You could start with your junk drawer and move to a more extensive area when you feel confident and comfortable in your abilities. Larger areas are usually the most pressing and annoying spaces in your home. Once you get started, you’ll be surprised how quickly you get on a roll.

When you start your editing and organizing journey, you have to be clear on what is important to you. What brings value to your life, and what doesn’t. You have to evaluate your goals and stick with your decisions.

Ask yourself, is this worth the time to sell, or am I better off donating? Would my niece actually want this item, or am I just stalling on letting go?  How do I want to feel when I’ve completed the process? After all, doesn’t it all come down to how we feel?

Let's chat if you need help creating an organized home that puts you first!

Xoxo,

Michelle
