Learn how to pack a suitcase like a pro!

This is my way to will on the summer. I’m dreaming of my vacation somewhere beautiful and sunny, but first I must pack my suitcase! Packing a suitcase efficiently and effectively is a skill that can make traveling so much easier and more organized. Wanna learn how to pack like a pro?

Packing a suitcase for summer vacation

Start with a packing list: Before you start packing, make a list of all the items you need to bring on your trip. This will help you stay organized and ensure you don't forget anything important. Start with broader categories such as: clothing, toiletries, medications, travel documents, accessories & electronics, and don’t forget money. Once you have established your broader categories you can add details.

2. Choose the right suitcase: Select a suitcase that is lightweight, durable, and the right size for your trip. Consider features like compartments, wheels, and handles for convenience. I prefer to see my suitcase as an investment and buy something that will serve me for many trips.

3. Roll your clothes: Rolling your clothes instead of folding them can save space and help prevent wrinkles. This technique can also make it easier to see what you've packed without having to dig through layers of clothing.

4. Be intentional: I personally like to create a capsule wardrobe with a few versatile pieces that I can mix and match, as well as multi-functional items that can serve multiple purposes. E.g. A scarf can be used as a wrap, a blanket or a beach cover up

5. Use packing cubes or compression bags: Packing cubes are a great way to keep your clothes organized and separate in your suitcase. They can also help compress your clothes to save space in your suitcase and make it easier to find what you need.

6. Pack essentials in your carry-on: Make sure to pack any essential items, such as medications, travel documents, a change of clothes, and toiletries, in your carry-on bag in case your luggage gets lost or delayed. If taking a trip by car, consider keeping these items in a crossbody bag for easy access.

7. Maximize space: Pack smaller items like socks and underwear inside shoes or other empty spaces in your suitcase, this is where rolling your clothes comes in really handy. Utilize every inch of space by filling gaps with smaller items or accessories. While also leaving room for any souvenirs you may want to bring back.

8. Layer heavier items at the bottom: A little bit like packing moving boxes, place heavier items like shoes or toiletry bags at the bottom of your suitcase to provide a stable base for your other belongings.

9. Use travel-sized containers: To save space and comply with carry-on restrictions, transfer liquids like shampoo and lotion into travel-sized containers. I like to use the silicone travel size containers so I can throw them in the dishwasher when I get home. Silicone lasts way longer than plastic and is far more pliable. If I’m taking a road trip I still like to use silicone travel sized containers for the sake of maximizing space in my suitcase and in my car.

10. Pack strategically: Pack items you'll need first at the top or in a separate compartment for easy access. Keep similar items together to make unpacking and finding things easier. It’s always best to think ahead. This saves a lot of frustration and minimizes a mess trying to get to what you need in a hurry.

11. Consider your destination and activities: Pack clothes and items appropriate for the weather and activities at your destination. Check the local weather and plan your outfits accordingly.
