How to adopt a decluttered life:a few habits of the most organized people
Have you ever wondered why some people stay organized, while others struggle to find their missing keys or simply can’t find anything at all? It’s all about implementing and maintaining systems. Let’s have a chat about some of those systems and how you can work them into your daily routine.
1). THEY ASSIGN A DESIGNATED SPOT FOR EVERYTHING.
All items must have a home. When an item has a home, it’s easier and quicker to find said item. A great example of this is to maybe have a “catch-all” just inside the entrance. This way you can dump your keys and wallet there as you walk in the door.
2). THEY SET ASIDE 15 MINUTES FOR CLEAN-UP.
Organized people will set aside 15 minutes at the end of the day to have a quick sweep around the house and put everything that is out, back into its designated spot ready for the next day. In the biz we call this a 15-minute win.
3). THEY TRIM DOWN THE CLUTTER.
Implementing this system makes it a whole lot easier to find the things you are looking for. I, myself will immediately recycle any junk mail that I get so that I don’t have mounds upon mounds of junky paper. If say an Amazon package arrives, I make sure to flatten the box right away and get rid of it so that again, the clutter doesn’t pile up.
4). THEY PRIORITIZE
Some people are better at this than others. The sooner you learn how to recognize what is important to you and what isn’t, the sooner you will become organized and less stressed. The goal here is to simplify. If it’s important but I don’t really want to do it, I make sure it’s the first thing I get done.
5). THEY PREPARE
Think about what you have coming up and prepare accordingly. I like to figure out the night before what I will be wearing the next day and then lay it out ready for me just to slip on in the morning. If you have kids, maybe setting out the breakfast dishes the night before or packing up their lunches ready for the next day is a good way to save time and stay organized.
6). THEY CLEAN UP IN THE MOMENT
We always tell kids that if they use something please put it back. Some adults are pretty bad at remembering this too. It’s a simple rule of thumb. If you use it, put it back where it belongs as soon as you’re done with it. Simple!
7). THEY WRITE IT DOWN OR TALK TO SIRI
Whether it’s a to-do list, your shopping list or you just need to remember something. Write it down or ask Siri to remind you. I’m a huge fan of Post-its, and also a huge fan of our friend Siri. If I don’t have a Post-it handy I just simply ask Siri to remind me, she’s always been more than happy to oblige. Our days get so busy that it’s impossible to remember every single thing that we need to do, so just remember that Siri and Post-its are your friends.
Happy Organizing!
Sincerely,
Michelle
